The South Asian Symphony Orchestra is a unique ensemble bringing together musicians from across the region to foster peace and unity through music. The inspiration comes from Ambassador Nirupama Menon Rao’s years in diplomacy and aims to provide a platform to promote dialogue, cultural synergy, and friendly understanding. The programme features compositions by Beethoven and Saint-Saëns, and a new work by Indian composer Aryaman Joshi celebrating the spirit and ambition of India’s lunar exploration. Singaporean conductor Alvin Arumugam leads the orchestra in this concert featuring pianist Pallavi Mahidhara as soloist.
Indian-American pianist Pallavi Mahidhara made her orchestral debut at 10 and has since performed across five continents, including at such prominent festivals such as the Gstaad Menuhin and Verbier. She is the Second Prize winner of the 69th Geneva International Piano Competition and hosts The Conscious Artist podcast, which focuses on mental health awareness for performing artists.
Conductor Alvin Arumugam is the Music Director of the Musicians’ Initiative (Singapore) and the South Asian Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, he has served as assistant conductor on performances with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Opera Academy, and has worked alongside such renowned conductors as Martyn Brabbins and Antonio Pappano.
Programme includes:
