The South Asian Symphony Orchestra (SASO) will return to Chennai, having last performed in the city in 2022, with a performance that brings the timeless music of Mozart—and more—to life.

The evening’s programme will highlight Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, a masterpiece that showcases the composer’s dramatic brilliance and the enduring emotional depth of his work.

Adding a distinctive Indian note, the concert will also celebrate the centenary of cinematic legend Raj Kapoor with newly commissioned orchestral arrangements of his classic melodies — a heartfelt tribute to the power of shared cultural heritage.

The performance will further feature a special orchestral adaptation of a nottuswara by the revered composer Muthuswami Dikshitar, prepared exclusively for this occasion.

About the South Asian Symphony Foundation

The South Asian Symphony Foundation (SASF) was founded by Ambassador Nirupama Menon Rao with the aim of promoting greater cultural integration for the cause of peace in our region of South Asia, through the medium of music and the creation of a South Asian Symphony Orchestra. The inspiration comes from Ambassador Rao’s years in diplomacy and what she saw as a felt need for providing a platform to promote more dialogue, cultural synergy, and friendly understanding among the youth of the eight countries in South Asia, including India.
